Recently I've been slowly swapping out my parts one at a time since I purchased a prebuilt system with a 1050ti and a Ryzen 5 2400g. Initially, I upgraded to a Chieftec 700w PSU, then added a Kingston 3200mhz 8GB RAM stick (which came pre-installed), followed by an AMD 2060 Super, and now the 5GHz 5600X. That’s when issues began to appear.

Occasionally, while playing intensive games, my computer would suddenly power down, as if it had a blackout, without any error messages or crashes. I’ve eliminated most possibilities and completed stress tests on my CPU, GPU, and PSU, all showing no faults.

I ran a Memtest86 test, and around 10 seconds in, the system shut off completely. To verify my doubts, I also performed an OC test via OCT, which confirmed the same behavior. During these tests, with only one stick installed at a time, there were no errors—everything worked smoothly. However, once both sticks were used together, the shutdown occurred instantly.

Setting an XMP profile in the BIOS doesn’t allow the PC to boot into Windows before powering off. The most puzzling part is how it shuts down abruptly, despite the PSU being relatively new (about a year old) and functioning perfectly until I installed the new CPU. I was somewhat inexperienced during the initial replacements, which might be the cause. I’m considering using my old PSU, rated for 550W, as a backup, since this situation strongly suggests a RAM issue.

Given my limited experience, my Kingston RAM isn’t listed in the MOTO list for my motherboard (ASRock A320M-DVS 3.0), but it was still working until I swapped in the new CPU. I’m completely confused about what to do next and would really appreciate guidance on the next steps.

Shutdowns like this are probably due to power supply issues, and given the unit's one-year warranty, I'm not surprised. Where are you located? You should consider replacing the PSU as soon as possible with a more reliable model, even if it's more expensive. The PSU is the most important component, even if you don't notice it, it's crucial to install it correctly and choose a quality one.

Chieftec has numerous outdated PSUs. Which specific model is it?
Mixing RAM with Ryzen leads to instability, and the 3200 MT/s is restricted by the 2400 MT/s stick; both are running even slower.
What BIOS version is being used on the motherboard?

This PSU is extremely poor quality, poorly regulated, and has weak voltage control and inadequate protection features. A new matched set of 2 units is available.

It's uncertain, but if this is merely a CPU or RAM concern, it likely isn't robust enough for such intense testing. Still, a two-year warranty offers some reassurance and reflects a certain level of quality. Five years would be ideal.

I might test the older PSU to check if it affects shutdown behavior, as the old one worked reliably for six years despite being a low-quality brand (rhino rx-550PA). However, at that time I was running a 1050 ti, and my friend had the same problem—his fix was also the same PSU, but his system had good components from the start, and his PSU was underpowered for its specifications. I’ll give it another try, thank you.

I should have conducted more research rather than focusing only on the wattage, that’s my mistake. Regarding the RAM, I’ll review the QVL and proceed from there, thanks.

Back then, I didn't really pay much attention to psus. Nowadays, low-power components are common and cheap imitations are easy to find. As performance increases, these dependencies become more important.
