Question PC Requires Updated Version!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!
Hey Experts,
I’m at a stage where I know my PC really needs some improvements and possibly a refresh. But before jumping into changes, I’d like to get expert advice on compatibility and recommendations!
Here’s what I have so far:
- Intel i7-4770K CPU @ 3.50GHz (4 cores)
- 32 GB DDR3 RAM
- MSI Z87 - G45 Gaming motherboard (MS-7821)
- Samsung SSD 860 EVO 1TB
- Seagate 1TB HDD
- External Samsung 1TB SSD
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX1050 Ti GPU
- Budget range: £500–£750
The build has been working well for most games, but lately a few have started stuttering and aren’t running as smoothly. The latest game I tried, Ark Survival Ascended, performed poorly overall. I’m hoping my setup could handle better upgrades if I get some professional input.
Any suggestions or tips would be really helpful!
Thanks a lot,
Nomad
You've likely already figured this out, but essentially you require a completely new setup. Your previous setup has limited upgrade options, and any enhancements would be minimal. A much better upgrade would be to sell what you no longer need and replace it with something more suitable.
You can retain your existing drives, but I recommend switching to an NVME (M.2) boot drive. Depending on your case and power supply unit, you might still want to keep them (though PSUs usually lose efficiency over time)....would you like me to include these in your current component list?
We can assemble a functional build, just identify which parts to maintain and which should be replaced. If you're flexible with your budget, selling some components—particularly the GTX 1050ti—could give you extra funds.
AM5 comes with a significant initial investment, so here are some alternatives:
You might consider upgrading to an i7-14700 later by applying a BIOS update.
The 6750XT can provide stable 108p gaming for several years ahead.
An ATX 3.0 PSU with a 16-pin connector is available for future GPU upgrades.
You can purchase an LGA 1700 mounting kit for your current cooler for around five pounds.
Alrighty. Thankyou for the replies to both of you.
So below is my full build and what i would like to keep as it would inevitably save money for me.
Case = Gaming HAF X
Motherboard = MSI Z87 - G45 Gaming (MS-7821)
Intel i7-4770K CPU @ 3.50GHz 4 Core(s)
Ram 32 GB DDR3
Samsung SSD 860 EVO 1TB
Seagate 1TB HDD
External SSD Samsung 1TB
GPU NVIDIA GeForce GTX1050 Ti
PSU Corsair RM750x
So obviously the 2 SSD's and HDD can stay
The case should be large enough so can stay
would the power supply also be enough?
and im guessign the ram is not able to stay?
Man thanks again for the time taken to help me out, really appreciate it.
Oh also Budget I'll say £800 and also what's the best way to go about getting some money for parts like my old GPU now?
It depends on the age of the PSU. The RMx usually comes with a 10-year warranty. If it's nine years or older, I'd recommend replacing it. For the GPU, you might want to list it on eBay together with the motherboard, RAM, and CPU. Having the stock Intel cooler would be ideal. The CPU, motherboard, RAM, and GPU should together bring you at least 120 pounds.
Hey everyone,
I have a budget of £800 but I don’t need everything.
I’m completely replacing my old PC gaming setup, but I can keep some of what I already have.
My current build includes a Haf X Tower Case, plenty of SSD and HDD storage, a fresh 750W PSU, and all the peripherals like monitors and a keyboard/mouse.
I’m trying to fill in the gaps with something that can handle high-end games without breaking the bank.
Recently, the Ark Survival Ascended release caught my attention—it’s not great optimized, but even on low settings my PC is struggling.
Here’s what I currently have:
Case = Gaming HAF X
Motherboard = MSI Z87 - G45 Gaming (MS-7821)
CPU: Intel i7-4770K @ 3.50GHz (4 cores)
RAM: 32 GB DDR3
Storage: Samsung SSD 860 EVO 1TB, Seagate 1TB HDD, external 1TB SSD
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX1050 Ti
Power Supply: Corsair RM750x
Looking at it, the CPU is probably over 10 years old!
Any suggestions or advice would be really helpful.
Thanks a lot,
Nomad
Stuttering stems from a brief shortage of an essential component.
Generally, the CPU is the main factor.
Allocate time to run your games, but reduce resolution and visual effects.
This slightly eases the workload on your graphics card.
An increase in FPS suggests your CPU can handle a better graphics setup.
If FPS remains unchanged, your CPU might be the limiting factor.
Consider upgrading your CPU if needed; a platform upgrade is advisable.
Ark survival tips:
Minimum system specs:
Operating System: Windows 10/11 with updates
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, Intel Core i7-6800K
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT, NVIDIA GeForce 1080
DirectX: Version 12
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Storage: 70 GB available space
Extra notes: SSD required
Recommended system specs:
Operating System: Windows 10/11 with updates
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X, Intel i5-10600K
Memory: 32 GB RAM
Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 6800, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080
DirectX: Version 12
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Storage: 70 GB available space
Extra notes: SSD required
The processor list is outdated and quite old.
On the Intel side, which you’re more comfortable with, the i7-6800K is nearly equivalent to a $100 I3-12100.
This offers only a slight improvement over your i7-4770K.
The suggested processor, the i5-10600k, is hardly different.
I’d recommend an i5-13400 for around $210.
These chips come with a suitable LGA1700 cooler.
Any LGA1700 motherboard will suffice; avoid the cheapest H10 models.
You can find a 760-based board under $100.
Performance of DDR4 and DDR5 RAM is comparable.
The price difference for a RAM/motherboard combo has dropped significantly, making a DDR5 system a viable option.
Two 16 GB RAM units will cost roughly $90.
Plan to repurpose your SSD drives, even for the C drive.
The benefits of PCIe M.2 SSDs lie in fast sequential access.
Most tasks involve small random operations—you won’t notice a difference.

Reconsider using your HDD as an external backup.
If your test indicates the 4770 can last longer, then focus on graphics cards.
Your RMx750w PSU is solid, and I wouldn’t hesitate to reuse it.
Tom’s GPU hierarchy chart can help you gauge the capabilities of various graphics cards.
There’s a significant gap between minimum and recommended options.
I’d suggest a card in the middle range, such as 4060, A770, or RX6700.
