Question: PC only starts up every other time?
Hello, I'm experiencing a recent issue where my PC fails to boot and displays a CPU error on the ezdebug LEDs. I force shut it down by holding the power button and then restart it, which works normally. This has been happening for six years, so it's not related to a CPU reseat. I've cleared the CMOS by removing the battery for five minutes, performed a clean Windows 11 installation, updated and reset the BIOS settings, but nothing has resolved the problem. The event log in Windows shows no activity, and I'm unsure how to fix this issue.
It shouldn't appear in Windows 11, but verify if it is. Check whether Fast Startup is enabled.
Thank you for the response and no, it isn't applicable. I disabled it some time ago in an attempt to resolve the problem, but it didn't work.
I understand you took out the CMOS battery, but perhaps you should replace it and check if that resolves the issue. It helps save settings, though if it were CMOS I’d expect other settings to reset on startup. Worth a shot.
It seems unlikely this is Windows-related, especially since fast startup isn’t working.
The fact it functions after a restart is odd. There shouldn’t be any variation between restarts—though the time the PC is off during a restart is significantly shorter.
Does this occur every time or occasionally?
If it happens all the time, you might want to remove some components to narrow down the cause. Maybe unplug all the HDDs except C and see if that makes a difference. Unfortunately, the CPU doesn’t have GPU cores, so I’d suggest the same for the GPU either. I don’t think any of these parts are responsible, but testing by unplugging them can confirm if the error persists.
