Mobo: Asus Z690-P D4
CPU: Intel i5-13600K,
GPU: MSI 3080 Ti

A few days back, my 7-year-old SSD began acting up after shutting down the computer. I couldn’t progress past the motherboard logo screen. When I chose the SSD in the boot menu, it would freeze for about three minutes, flashing an underscore repeatedly. I opted to swap it out and installed a fresh Windows system while keeping my old drives (HDD and M.2) disconnected.

Following that, new issues emerged: certain programs would crash, random screen glitches appeared, and after a crash, the computer would sometimes boot at a lower resolution with a driver conflict error 43 for my GPU in Device Manager.

I’ve already tried updating the latest chipset drivers from the motherboard page, reinstalled the GPU drivers via DDU, but when the system crashes, I see the same message in Event Viewer. Safe Mode isn’t working because my mouse and keyboard aren’t detected.

If this points to a failing graphics card, it’s odd that everything happened so quickly. Am I just unlucky?

Full specifications are available, including the PSU make and model or part number. Please let me know the age of the PSU and whether it was purchased new, used, or refurbished.

PSU: I purchased an RMX 850x around winter 2022, with CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB RAM installed. The graphics card was used previously, experienced a similar issue three years ago, and was resolved via RMA. Removing the GPU and connecting the monitor to the motherboard works without problems. Currently, the PC functions properly, though the GPU remains the bottleneck. I managed to get DDU to run in safe mode, but it didn’t significantly help. Recently, a game message appeared:
"D3D11-compatible GPU (Feature Level 11.0, Shader Model 5.0) is required to run the engine."
I was able to launch Apex Legends without issues, but when playing more demanding games it would crash after a few minutes. I can still browse YouTube normally, though performance drops noticeably under heavy graphics load.

Used equipment is offered "as is" with no guarantee it will function like new or endure long. With the RTX 30-series, the likelihood of it being an ex-mining GPU is quite high. A fresh GPU would be necessary.

Sure, I'll check that. Are there any links between my SSD failure and GPU failure afterward? I just want to confirm it's not a problem with the motherboard before purchasing another card. Also, do you have any suggestions for upgrading? I'm playing 1440p single/multiplayer games and planning to spend about $500 to $800. Thanks!

No link between performance and luck. If the PSU were poor, hardware failure would be likely. With a good-quality PSU, it's not a concern. For this price, the RTX 5070 Ti is excellent.

RX 9070 XT likely offers comparable results to the 5070 Ti but at a lower cost.

Variations in performance can be significant based on the game; however, certain options stand out.
