Question Overclocking RAM Questions
Question Overclocking RAM Questions
I just bought an i7 12700k and a MSI Pro Z690 Mobo, which will be a big upgrade from my previous setup of an i5 8600k and an MSI Z370 mobo. Since World of Warcraft is the only game I play, I understand it mainly depends on CPU and RAM. I need to stick with low-profile RAM because my case has a Corsair 4000D and a 280mm AIO fan mounted on top. I’ve been checking out the Corsair VENGEANCE LPX 3600MHz CL16 32gb (16 GB) and the Kingston Fury Beast 3600MT/s CL18 32gb, wondering if anyone has done manual overclocking. I’ve already changed my CPU settings but haven’t touched RAM, so I want to try it myself and see if I can get even better performance than the clock speed. Have you managed to get any of these models?
Are you certain you purchased z590 since that model isn't compatible with the 12th generation? From the 6 series, only 12th generation boards are supported. Based on the available memory types, DDR4 3600 CL16 or 18 works well, and sticking to the default XMP settings would be best. Overclocking by adjusting timings might not improve performance noticeably; stability is more likely to suffer. For DDR5, 6000 CL 30 or 32 offers optimal results.
