Question Overclocking RAM 1333MHz to 1600MHz
I don't understand how to increase the RAM or CPU speed using your motherboard. I've never done that before and I'm looking for your help. Is it reasonable to try raising the RAM speed from 1333MHz to 1600MHz? Should I also overclock the CPU, or can I achieve this only with the RAM? Does this approach make sense? Please let me know if you need more details about my PC and parts.
You might boost just your RAM speed, but adding more would be wiser. Your hardware is quite outdated. Consider purchasing additional DDR3 only if you intend to extend its lifespan. In that case, allocate funds for a newer system with DDR4 memory. I checked the RAM timings and raising them from 9-9-9-24 to 11-11-11-36 would allow running at 1600 or even 1866MHz. You’d also need to raise the DRAM voltage from 1.50V to 1.65V. However, for gaming purposes, most titles now require more than 4GB of system memory.
You start the computer in BIOS and modify the configurations there. Each motherboard has its own BIOS settings, so if you don’t have the manual for your board, you can obtain the .pdf from the manufacturer’s site.
Typically, you keep the timings and voltage set to Auto and only alter the RAM speed; this should help the system adapt. However, if this doesn’t resolve the issue, you may need to adjust them manually.
What is the highest voltage limit for my RAM? What is the safest voltage I can use? Thank you.
