Question on PCIe Lanes

I`m wanting to do a new build but after investigating the 1700 sockets and the 1851 socket, I found that the PCIe lanes are lower than my 2066 socket. The 1700 have 20 lanes and the 1851 at most have 28 lanes. I had a I7 7820X with 28 lanes and it was average but when I went to the I7 9800X with 44 lanes it was day and night. What I`m concerned about is getting an I7 12700KF and it is slowing things down.

What are you really doing? The chipset includes PCIE lanes too. The Z690 that connects to the 12700KF has 28 lanes, while the CPU itself has 20 lanes—16 for the GPU and 4 for the SSD.

That's exactly what I was looking for. I don't want to invest a lot of money and end up with a PC that's slower than what I already have. I own a X299 Raider with an I7 9800X and 32 gigabytes of RAM. My current setup is quite fast, so I'm wondering if the Socket 1700 will fit the GPU (RTX 4080) along with two M.2 SSD drives. From what I see, it probably won't.

It's not just two SSDs linked directly to the CPU. The chipset handling the second SSD performs equally well, so any changes you might feel are mainly due to the overall system improvement.
