Ok so here's my problem... I'm a youtuber and I want to get into making videos with my OBSbot tiny Facecam. Well when I plug my camera into my computer and the display shows up in OBS it glitches and freaks out... I figured, maybe buying a video capture card could solve the problem. So my capture card comes in and i realize i cant plug my Facecam into it because it's a USB-C to USB. The capture card only takes HDMI as its input. In frustration, I drive to Walmart and pickup a USB-C to HDMI cable thinking this will solve my problem. Boy was I wrong. I plug the USB-C/HDMI cable into the capture card and then plug the capture card into the computer. Well now my the camera won't even power on.
Thinking it's just a problem with the capture card, I plug the camera with the HDMI end DIRECTLY into the computer and it STILL wont power on... WHAT IS GOING ON? I just wanted to fix my camera from glitching while recording and now im stuck in this loophole of buying stuff that doesn't fix my issue. I will note that when I plug my capture card in it does recognize it as "USB Video Device". Not sure if that matters or not. Please give me some direction on where to go from here. I'm completely lost...

Incidentally, I believe the next suitable test should focus on an externally powered USB HUB rather than an HDMI capture card. Signal quality over USB is quite intricate, and even functional parts can fail if the signal isn't strong enough. A hub sometimes helps by acting as a bridge and improving signal stability. Providing extra power is crucial because (A) it boosts camera performance, and (B) power regulation from the USB port can often cause problems.
Additionally, I think there are likely more drivers involved in HDMI capture than you realize. The PCIe slot driver for the capture card is only one part of the picture. A genuine HDMI camera is usually already configured with the HDMI installation you set up, whereas a USB camera doesn’t automatically become HDMI just because it uses the same cable. The capture card needs to handle different wiring and driver needs. Then another driver would be required to enable the USB camera to function as an HDMI device.
I don't know what changed, but you're completely right. After uninstalling the OBSbot program, deleting its drives, and reinstalling everything, it instantly solved my issue. You saved me from getting too worked up! Thanks a lot!
