You can repurpose existing parts and construct a suitable 4k editing system without needing gaming components. Building from scratch is a viable option. A reasonable setup within a 1k+ budget would include a mid-range CPU, a solid SSD, a decent GPU for editing tasks, and proper cooling.

Are you referring to the specifications of the device, including the enclosure and power source?
Though considering its age, I might prefer to keep it together as a secondary or backup unit, eventually replacing it with newer parts.
With a budget of 1k, which country are you from?

The distinction between a gaming PC and a video editing workstation isn't significant. Large amounts of video memory enable faster processing of video clips, and numerous software applications support compression and conversion through GPUs. However, you also require substantial CPU power and memory bandwidth—qualities essential for gamers.

If your power supply unit matches the age of your CPU, it's wise to consider a replacement soon. Chassis are affordable and often include additional fans, making the upgrade worthwhile despite the small price increase. This approach preserves your existing system while improving performance.

The 12700KF is currently on a solid discount, offering 8 high-speed cores and 4 efficiency cores. The RTX 3060 provides 12GB of VRAM and a fast GPU suitable for CUDA-based tasks, making it the most economical option for acquiring 12GB of VRAM today, aside from older models.

Functional chassis and cooling are important. A higher-end PSU is recommended since affordable options are limited. A fast storage drive with DRAM cache is advisable, and you may eventually need an external backup drive.
