Question My computer shuts down during a power cut even with an inverter running while playing games
As mentioned in the title, my PC shuts down immediately during power outages while playing games. It doesn't occur when the PC is idle. Below are the details I have:
Hardware:
- AMD Ryzen 5600
- MSI MPG A650GF PSU
- MSI RX6700 XT 12GB Graphics Card
- Inverter: Luminous 1500VA inverter (switched to UPS mode)
The issue appears only during heavy gaming sessions. No other device connected to the inverter is drawing a lot of power. The inverter is two months old, and my PC is eight months old—nothing seems outdated.
The inverter representative suggested it might be the PSU that trips due to voltage fluctuations during a power outage. I’m not sure, but any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.
I experienced the same issue before, but I replaced my PSU from an unknown brand with a new one. Could it be related to CPU or GPU temperature, or if all fans are functioning correctly? Have you observed any component throttling, including the motherboard?
If your PSU has a bulk 420V DC electrolytic capacitor that isn’t properly specified, it won’t be able to maintain the supply long enough during gaming until the UPS activates.
There are two (expensive) options.
1). Purchase a higher-quality PSU with a much longer hold-up time. The ATX standard is 17 or 18ms (I’m not sure which). Very good PSUs can last up to 24ms, but they’re quite rare. Another choice is an 850W or 1000W PSU. It should be able to keep operating for a few more milliseconds on your system when the mains fails.
2). Acquire a superior "always online" UPS that eliminates the switch-over delay.
