Question M.2 Drive vanished following the Windows Update.
I added a Samsung 990 Pro 2TB M.2 SSD to my PC one month ago. It was functioning properly until the Windows update last night. After the update and restart, it vanished. I performed several restarts without success. Once I relocated the drive to another slot, it worked again. It seems to be a Gigabyte Z690 UD AX. Could anyone explain why this occurred? Should I update my BIOS? Thank you.
It's likely to be updated eventually, including the chipset drivers. Verify the SSD using Samsung Magician and consider updating its firmware if it's available.
Check for updates through the device manager or manufacturer's website, and ensure your system is fully updated before proceeding. This process may not be automatic during a regular Windows Update.
I followed the given steps but didn't find the Intel Chipset Driver listed among System Devices. Many entries with Intel in the title were present. The device manager assumed all had current drivers.
I used the Gigabyte Control Center to refresh the drivers. Everything functioned properly except for one issue. It would repeatedly install itself, then reappear on the GCC dashboard as if it needed updating.
I visited the Gigabyte website, downloaded the update, and installed it from there, but it remained visible on GCC.
After that, I swapped the M.2 back to the CPU slot, and it operated correctly.
To further resolve the problem, I updated the BIOS. I’ll discuss this in a separate thread under the MoBo section.
My new question: If I need a second M.2 drive for system use, what should I do if a Windows update causes the System Disk to vanish?
