Hello everyone.
Key of Geebz is a former composer who has been breaking down popular songs on YouTube for both fans and creators. Recently, he started using AKG-240 headphones, which are affordable under $100. He also shared a video featuring another professional using the same headphones. This raises my confusion about why these audio/music experts are opting for such budget-friendly options. Is it possible that expensive headphones are being marketed as scams? Thank you for your attention.

They might have gotten the headphones for promotional or evaluation reasons....
Or they realized the headphones provide the required quality for the tasks at hand.
Maybe they found that these headphones offer the right level of fidelity for the work.
It could be because they are more responsive to certain frequencies, etc.
I won’t claim that expensive headphones (or any costly product) automatically means it’s a scam.
There are numerous trade-offs between price and benefits to weigh.
Particularly when subjective factors like audio quality come into play.
The old principle "Caveat Emptor" remains relevant.
These are just my observations on the situation.

Audiophile headphones are usually adjusted to fit the Harmon curve. Devices meant for mixing and mastering should be set to neutral. This keeps the sound balanced, preventing overly bright or bass-heavy mixes. A neutral setup isn't typically considered 'exciting,' though exceptions like the HD 600 exist. Personally, I don't think that's a strong preference, and it depends on individual taste. Over the past decade, I've owned about 15 pairs, which pushed me into more expensive options.
