Question: Is the Microcenter Bundle worth it?
Question: Is the Microcenter Bundle worth it?
Hey everyone,
I’m considering purchasing this Microcenter AMD Bundle. Could you share your opinion on whether it’s a worthwhile purchase? I currently have an R7 3700x and am looking to upgrade since I need better performance. My current setup isn’t handling 1440p smoothly, so I want to ensure everything runs well. The price differences are: 1) Microcenter Bundle - $630, 2) Buying items separately on Amazon - $835, 3) Prices in my country - $975. What do you think?
The bundle offers good value for its cost. The least impressive component would likely be the motherboard, as I would have liked a more powerful MSI Tomahawk, either with the B650 or B850 chipset.
My computer is mainly used for gaming and coding, not for demanding tasks. I need to ensure everything runs smoothly at 1440p, which isn’t possible with my current configuration.
You may want to note the scenarios you plan to stress-test the system with, including specific apps and titles.
Prices in my country are around 975$.
Which location is this? If you’re not in the USA...how will you obtain that bundle from Microcenter?
Moved the discussion about components to the Systems section.
1440p is increasingly reliant on GPU power rather than CPU. What GPU model are you running? An upgrade could provide sufficient performance, and switching to a 5000-series CPU in your existing slot might be more cost-effective.
The latency of the 3700x is likely to limit a newer GPU, similar in cost to the bundle, such as the RX 9070 or RTX 5070, even at 1440p. When paired with a 3090, this issue became apparent, particularly due to Nvidia's driver performance problems. Four years of Ryzen 5 usage with both CPU and GPU scaling benchmarks shows how these models compare across several titles using the GeForce RTX 3090, RTX 3070, Radeon... TechSpot. I concur that a 5000 series upgrade with a fresh GPU could offer a more balanced solution overall.
Only thing is, if a part is faulty there is no going back.
Which makes this thread and your intention to buy said parts from USA, a fool's errand. You should look at sourcing parts locally which will help you sleep at night knowing you have warranty to cover any damages or out of box issues.
I own an ASUS ROG b550 F-Gaming and can only locate a 5700x3d model for about 250 dollars. I also have a GTX 1080Ti, but upgrading to a 9070xt might cause a bottleneck with my current CPU.
Tell me about your present power supply unit's brand, model, and how long it has been there.
