In the past two days my PC seems to be overheating. It works fine when using the desktop or watching YouTube, but when I play games like Helldivers, I can run around for a few minutes and then suddenly the screen goes black. About 10 seconds later, the audio stops, and all the fans spin at full speed. I think the issue might be with the thermal paste on my CPU—it hasn’t been changed in over three years, while the GPU’s paste was updated just a year ago.
I ran a FurMark stress test on both the CPU and GPU, recording the results with Icue logger. The GPU reached a peak of 91 degrees around 30 seconds before it shut down completely, while the CPU stayed near 68.6 degrees. For reference, I’m using a Ryzen 7 3700X and an RTX 2080 Super.

A quality thermal paste typically lasts around five years. What kind are you using?
GPU temperatures reaching 90c are unrealistic; it should be gaming at roughly 65-75c maximum. If it's hitting 90c, the GPU might be throttling.
Are all system drivers and BIOS updated?
You can clean the GPU with compressed air to remove dust. Also, verify that both fans are spinning properly (or three if applicable).
Not completely certain about the paste used. The GPU only had paste re-applied by a local repair shop since I wasn’t confident taking it apart. I’ve ordered some Noctua thermal paste from Amazon and plan to ask a friend to apply it to both the CPU and GPU, working from there. I’ll also blow out the GPU while it’s disconnected. All drivers are current, though I haven’t updated my BIOS drivers because I didn’t think it was necessary.
