[QUESTION] How can I copy a hard drive that is locked and has two sections without losing data?
Hi everyone. I've got two hard drives that are the exact same size. What I want to do is copy one drive onto another one, but first, I need to make sure both new disks have two separate encrypted parts on them (and we won't use them as normal storage yet). Will using the same tricks for cloning work here?
The situation changes depending on how it's locked down. When you use software-based locking like BitLocker or VeraCrypt, the security level is pretty much the same as just copying the drive one bit at a time. However, if you rely on physical hardware locks, then that adds extra protection based on what specific devices are involved in the process.
It all comes down to how it's encrypted. If you use software-based protection like BitLocker, VeraCrypt, or TrueVrypt, that works just as well as copying data one piece at a time. But if your encryption is done with hardware tools, then the way you deal with that security depends on whether you're working directly with the computer parts themselves.
