Question "Highend" Retro Gaming PC
Question "Highend" Retro Gaming PC
Hey everyone!
I’m finally starting to put together my computer room in my first home. One goal is to assemble a Retro Gaming PC for all the classic games I enjoyed as a child. It’s been more than 20 years since I built a machine on my own, so I could use some assistance. My aim is to recreate a high-end gaming system from around 2004.
I’ve put together a list of components I’m considering purchasing. Locating all these items has been quite the task. Buying used parts from sites like Ebay makes me a bit anxious.

I’d really appreciate your feedback on this build and any recommendations or buying tips you might have. The games I’m targeting are from the 1995 to 2004 era. They include titles like Vampire: The Masquerade: Redemption, Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines, Sacrifice, Redneck Rampage, Carmageddon 1 & 2, Thief Gold, Thief II: The Metal Age, Thief: Deadly Shadows, American Mcgee’s Alice 1 & 2, Warcraft 1-3, Baldur’s Gate 1 & 2, Planescape Torment, Icewind Dale 1 & 2. I’m sure there are more I haven’t thought of.
Thanks a lot!
Things from that time are unclear to me, but this came to mind; the PSU back then weren't particularly good quality units, and locating a working order motherboard in 2024 could be difficult since they might have failed capacitors. The thread was moved from the CPUs section to the Systems section.
