I tried several approaches but couldn't resolve the issue. I replaced the Lian Li Gen 4 Riser with a new Lian Li Gen 5 Riser to ensure full bandwidth. I updated the BIOS to set the PCIe version to Gen 5, saved and exited. After booting into Desktop, GPUZ displayed x16 5.0, which was unexpected. I checked the HWINFO and noticed PCI Express and receiver errors on multiple lanes, which didn<|pad|>'s been seen before with my Gen 4 Riser. I then powered off the PC, restarted it, and changed the PCIe setting back to Gen 4. After rebooting again, I switched back to Gen 5 and confirmed x16 4.0 in both GPUZ and HWINFO, with no errors detected. Before concluding it was a bad cable, I asked if there were any other factors I might have overlooked.

Before I label it as a poor cable, is there anything I might be overlooking here?
If the cable performs consistently across another platform with matching specifications (especially PCIe lane and bandwidth), then it’s likely the issue lies elsewhere. You could simply move your riser cable and discrete GPU to that platform to test if the problem persists.
I saw your specifications in your signature section, but we recommend including the complete system details in the discussion thread. This is because those specs can change over time, and if they do, this thread and its suggestions may no longer be useful for you.
Here’s a suggested format for your build details:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
RAM:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
Add the age of the PSU along with its make and model. Also, note the current BIOS version for your motherboard.
Finally, I’ve decided against using riser cables and adapters—they tend to be the most vulnerable component in a solid build.
