Question from someone new to overclocking
Just began exploring PC building and overclocking. Does overclocking involve fixing the CPU and GPU to a specific speed? For instance, if I set a 6950x at 4.2GHz, will it keep running at that exact rate? Or is it more about reaching a new maximum where the CPU boosts its frequency as needed under stress? If the first option is correct, can there be a method to let the CPU gradually increase its speed instead of locking it at a fixed level?
The frequency would adjust at both ends, and power-saving functions such as SpeedStep would still function in modifying frequency according to the workload. It's also feasible to maintain a constant frequency.
