Hello Community,
I purchased Horizon for PC from Steam. When I first got the game, it took about 45 minutes to optimize, and I was pleased since I achieved 60fps on high settings. I played for around six hours without any problems. However, the next day when I started the game, my FPS dropped from 60 to 20fps. I didn’t change any settings and tried all configurations, even the lowest one, but I still got the same FPS. I already have the latest NVIDIA driver installed, so I reinstalled it just in case. If anyone has faced the same issue or needs assistance, please let me know.

I have:
AMD FX 8320 eight core.
16gb Vengeance DDR3 1600mhz RAM
NVIDIA GTX 1070 8gb.
Windows 10

If the FPS remains low even with reduced graphics, the issue likely lies with the CPU.
The 8320 is quite old and I was surprised you managed to reach 60fps with it, as running zero dawn is a demanding task.
If so, have you looked into CPU temperatures, clock speeds, and usage?
The new game might just be a coincidence, or something unrelated to your CPU or cooling system at that time.

.
To be honest i was surprised too, I never thought i would able to hit 60, i thought around 30 on medium setting would be enough. Although game compromised with my resolution its on 1280x 720.
I did upload a short video of my game play with MSI after burner you can see all details:
This is cut scene:

this one is game play:

Everything is working so perfectly

Surprising results for an older device!
Can you replicate the same performance now that it's weaker?
There seems to be an issue with the CPU that significantly reduces output.
Used 11GB of RAM, but the game is extremely demanding on memory!
I just installed it this morning but haven’t had a chance to test yet.
Also, you should revert the resolution back to 1080p at most.
The automatic optimization is completely off—rendering 720p at the best settings for a GTX 1070 is unrealistic.

These are the default configurations I previously used to achieve 60pfs and 720p quality.
For a high-quality display at 1080p, you can watch the following videos:
- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ic3rq6lqoxs
For a lower-quality setting at 1080p, check this link:

These options reflect the same content but with different resolutions and settings.

So at 720p you're still restricted in terms of frames per second suddenly??
The GPU usage is strange, it keeps getting maxed out no matter the resolution or settings.
I wouldn't expect 97% GPU usage with a 1070 at 720p to actually reach 60fps.
It's impossible to achieve that performance back from the original video at all, no matter what settings or resolution you use.

Yes, regardless of what I do, I'm still receiving the same performance. According to the system requirements, my PC should be able to run this game on medium settings. I've already played the game for 6 hours at 60 frames per second, and it feels quite smooth. However, achieving 20 frames per second in every setting on a 1070 is something I'm not getting.

Hey there,
I found the solution.
At first, I was surprised to see 60fps on my 50-inch LED TV via HDMI, but then I noticed a drop when switching to my 22-inch Samsung monitor. After trying everything, using my LED TV brought back the smooth performance I was expecting. I’m still puzzled about why it worked, but now I’m really enjoying it.

That's quite unusual but positive.
I spent an hour playing the game last night, using 60fps ultra settings.
I just completed the training missions, and I'm not feeling any resentment toward this game at all—it really looks amazing and the performance is excellent for me.

That game looks great, even at 1080p I’m seeing solid 40 to 50fps. I think my old FX8320 is still quite capable. Happy gaming and thanks for your help. Please share my reply so others can benefit if they encounter the same problem. 😊
