Question Display remains active?
Question Display remains active?
I know it works fine at first and something triggers it. It's exactly why I said it's probably not a problem with driver compatibility but rather a process that is starting at some point and make Windows thinking there's some activity on the screen.
Riva Tuner is a frame rate monitor and it could definitely mess up with the display shutdown. Try not using it (disable it, uninstall it, whatever, but make sure it's not running and see if the problem stop coming back.
You have a lot of background apps running that could be messing up with your display. I used to have some monitor sleep issues after launching a game with Steam and letting it (Steam) running in background after closing the game. Try to quit Steam after playing BF6 and see if helps.
Got it. Will disable most of those apps at startup and won't use them unless I really need them. Let's see if this helps.
Hi Dean,
Could you share a screenshot of Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options\System Settings?
Thanks in advance.
Best regards,

I turned off most startup features and kept only a few essential ones. There were no surprises or unknown elements. Here’s the current view of the startup items:
About Task Scheduler. I’m not sure where to check—local or library? The display was functioning properly before, it would sleep after one minute, but this evening I played Raid games and Far Cry 6. After that, it stopped working again. The lock screen no longer activates, even when I force it with WIN+L. The display won’t go to sleep anymore, and it doesn’t even sleep at all if the system isn’t touched. Basically, it’s broken again. What makes this situation difficult is that I haven’t seen other users experiencing the same issue—this seems like a unique case.
I am worried about all those custom triggers and multiple triggers. I have no idea what is happening as a result. For example, something might trigger another action which then activates yet another trigger, potentially turning off something that causes another trigger to activate something else... it keeps going in circles (notice the timed 'repeats') and ends up with "sleep" and possibly other activities being disrupted. A domino effect.... Especially if the games and apps you use are involved and cause Microsoft or other code to run. Or they might stop working altogether.
The posts shared don’t capture the entire list. This is limited by the constraints of screenshots. It seems there are numerous task names further down, and any trigger could have significant consequences.
It looks like a possible "perfect storm" might be occurring. Triggers are scheduled at specific times or days. If multiple triggers happen at the same time or overlap, things can go wrong.
Some triggers run when a user logs in. That alone could cause issues.
Could you help identify any triggers you’ve set up? Are they from an app, a game, or Microsoft?
My plan would be to examine each trigger and understand its purpose and execution. It will require a lot of effort.
If it’s not necessary or unknown, I’d at least turn off that trigger. For instance, I see two back-to-back One Drive triggers that look the same but have unclear task names. Similarly, there are several Office triggers listed.
I’m not a gamer and my Task Scheduler doesn’t support that many triggers. Other members might check their schedulers and provide useful feedback or suggestions.
That said:
Make sure all crucial data is saved at least twice in separate locations away from the computer. Confirm backups are recoverable and readable.
This should always be done...
In this case, any change could lead to some kind of outcome. And some of those outcomes might be negative.
I had something comparable that lasted for several years. It turned out to be my Xbox controller. It kept sending signals that prevented the system from shutting down properly. After unplugging it, the problem disappeared.
I never experienced any game-related issues or signs that the controller was failing. There were a few other unrelated problems that also vanished once I unplugged it. The controller is around 10 years old, so I replaced it and it has worked fine since.
This might not be your specific case, but I wanted to mention it as a potential cause.
NEW BIG UPDATE, GUYS:
It seems the display sleep isn't working alone—it affects the entire PC sleep function too. After changing the PC sleep duration to 5 hours and leaving a game running for five hours, I woke up to find the PC still on. Testing by putting the PC sleep setting to 1 minute showed it didn’t enter sleep mode at all. It appears whatever stops the display from sleeping also stops the PC from doing so.
I’ve tried disconnecting my controller and dock for a few days to see if the issue persists. I also installed the driver for my controller, but I’m unsure whether to remove it or just unplug the controller drive and dock.
I just turned off my controller without using the driver. It looked like it was sending constant input, and unplugging it stopped the signals and resolved the issue. Probably not your problem, but simple to check by briefly disconnecting it to see if it works.
