I changed my CPU to a Ryzen 5 5600X after updating the BIOS. But after that, I couldn't reach the BIOS main screen and Windows wouldn't boot. Switching from UEFI to CMS worked, but now Windows takes a long time to start, and I'm not sure about how well apps perform. I have limited knowledge of these settings. Are there any downsides to using CMS permanently besides slower boot times? What might be causing the UEFI mode issue?
Hello there! Are you using a specific motherboard? Have you reset the CMOS after confirming the BIOS update was applied correctly?

I didn't reset CMOS specifically, but I attempted "Restore default settings" in the BIOS after installing the new CPU. It only changed UEFI mode as the default boot option, and then I needed to revert it back to CMS to get Windows to start properly.

If your system doesn't start in UEFI-only mode, it means it was installed in legacy mode. You haven't booted in UEFI before. The use of CSM is necessary for legacy mode.
I learned more about CMS and noticed it might only slightly influence system speed, aside from extending boot duration. But isn't it a 32-bit environment? Doesn't this impact overall performance? The Windows startup time rose noticeably, indicating UEFI was likely the primary mode before.
It doesn't influence performance and isn't related to 32bit or 64bit architecture. It will disable secure boot, and it's a CSM module, not CMS.
I should have been more explicit; the system automatically displays the BIOS main screen and doesn't initiate the Windows boot without CSM.
Is there any disadvantage to continuing to use CSM? Updating the CPU was only a short-term fix, and I plan to assemble a new PC after a few years. I wouldn't mind avoiding another reinstall of Windows and all the programs.
