Question Computer automatically shuts down during gaming?
Question Computer automatically shuts down during gaming?
Hi All,
I’m reaching out to this community with a very puzzling problem.
Recently I assembled a PC just before the last Christmas, and here are its specifications:
Intel Core i9-12900KS
ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z690 FORMULA
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Founders Edition
Corsair Dominator DDR5 RAM 2 x 32gb
Corsair HX1500i PSU
4TB Seagate Firecuda 530
I primarily use this machine and haven’t played games on it much until now. When I run games, the system crashes completely without any errors or freezes, then restarts immediately. The behavior varies depending on the game—Sea of Thieves might take hours, while Red Dead 2 on ultra finishes in under five minutes.
I’ve tested stress testing and benchmarking tools repeatedly without issues:
- Furmark
- Prime95
- Memtest86
- Cinebench
- 3D Mark
- Benchmark Superposition
All ran smoothly for hours, yet the machine would fail instantly after launching Red Dead 2. I’ve saved all sensor logs from HWiNFO64 in an Excel file, with the final entry just before a restart. I’m unsure what to look for and would really appreciate any guidance.
Thanks for taking the time to read this 😁
Sensor logs before restart
Thank you for your quick response.
@Lutfij
- Ram placed in slots 1 and 2, meaning the first two on the left
- The case is an O11 Dynamic Evo by Lian Li
- The system features water cooling with a Hydro X - XD5 pump that reaches 2 radiators, covering the motherboard and GPU water block. I also own a Corsair AIO H100i
- BIOS Version 2.21.1278 – I kept the standard defaults except for XMP, which I switched to XMP I; this improved speed but didn’t resolve the problem
- Thanks!
Nothing in the log indicates anything clear, and the only observation was that just before it stopped, the CPU dropped to base clock on all P cores, though this might not be significant. Temperatures and power usage appear normal. Based on the manual, the DRAM should be in A2/B2, which corresponds to slots #2 and #4 when viewed from left to right. This might not affect the crash, but it's something you should address.
No iv had checked those logs before and they seem really unhelpful. I plan to install a new Windows version on a separate SSD, run another test, and try a different PSU. I’m really confused because all the stress tests pass perfectly, but when I play a game it restarts unexpectedly.
