Before answering please try up to date browser ... but is it true I have to go to https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensions manually "vs" having a default link in hamburger menu etc to get "new chrome extensions?" Why would Chrome Browser itself not have an embedded link in settings or menus to access its own extensions? Or am I missing something? Thank you

Yes, you should visit the Store, select the desired app and then add the extension. If your Chrome profile is synced, the app will be downloaded automatically when the browser has an opportunity to update using your credentials. It would be explained by the browser developers.

there is a google chrome store integrated with chrome itself, which means you need to enter a specific url rather than using a direct tool or menu in the browser. this setup can be confusing.
