Question Blue Screen Crashes, but only during play of demanding video games?
I've experienced a recurring problem for several months where, after playing games for 30 minutes to an hour and 20 minutes, the system suddenly crashes with a blue screen. No error message appears when it happens. Initially, the game freezes for about 5 to 10 seconds while audio continues, and parts of the desktop remain operational before the crash occurs after up to 10 to 15 seconds. This issue appears only under heavy gaming loads and has affected the following games: Witcher 3, Oblivion Remastered, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, and Rise of the Tomb Raider.
Here are some details you can share:
System Specifications
- Motherboard: ASRock Z490 XTREME 4
- CPU: I9-10900KF
- GPU: GTX 3080
- RAM: 32GB G.Skill 3600MHz
- Power Supply: 1000W Corsair Platinum PSU (specifications unclear)
- Operating System: Windows 11
- Custom Build: Full loop with 3 Triple fan radiators
- Overclocking: Previously aggressive, but temperatures stayed below 70 on GPU and 85 on CPU during crashes
What steps have you taken to resolve it:
- Removed all overclocks; system performance improved slightly.
- Ran memory tests with Memtest 64 for 4 hours—no issues detected.
- Used Bluescreen view or similar tools to analyze crash dumps, but no critical errors were found.
- Performed CPU stress tests with Prime95 for about 3 hours—no crashes.
- Ran GPU stress tests (Furmark) for over 4 hours—no failures.
- Reset Windows and reinstalled GPU drivers via DDU.
- Tested both GPU and CPU simultaneously without any crashes.
Given the custom water cooling setup, replacing components to isolate the problem is challenging. I hope this information helps clarify the situation before considering new hardware upgrades. Any advice on further troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.
If it hasn't generated dump files, the issue might be related to the storage device. It also works smoothly when running memtest86, furmark, and prime 95. I recommend cleaning the contacts with isopropanol and re-seating the M2 drive with the windows.
