Question: Are the Sonic Fanless power supplies that are sold used?
I was browsing ebay and noticed a lot of individuals offering used Seasonic (ultra plat.) fanless power supplies. If I had one, it would be impossible to resist! However, I'm hesitant to purchase them because I wouldn't want to sell one if I owned it. Why are so many people selling high-wattage fanless power supplies?
Here are the listings for the PSU in question. Often times an used PSU isn't what you should be investing in because you need to trust what the seller is saying. They might be lying or telling the truth, it could even be that they heavily taxed the unit and then discarded it to recover some of their money at your expense.
High watt refers to power levels that are becoming more common as power supplies increase in capacity. With PSUs reaching up to 1600 watts, the devices available might lack sufficient strength, particularly for high-wattage GPUs. Many PSUs also include a fanless option when less than a quarter of their capacity is in use, and this trend is growing as users opt for those designs. Additionally, modern GPUs and motherboards demand several connectors to deliver adequate power, which can limit the performance of fanless units.
I was wondering about any updates and am looking for updates on issues (thinking these great fanless PS might be getting sold by serious gamers who upgraded to i9 and a few fast Nvidia cards – that the minimum specs keep rising lately).
I've experienced PS needing 3 or 4 fan swaps each (it took years, but it happened). I'm weary of constantly replacing brushless fans.
(Regarding age, it should be checked with price before buying – correct. Many fanless units sold are actually fairly new, though)
