Recently, I encountered a problem where my graphics driver would frequently freeze and cause the game to crash. The PC doesn’t restart on its own, and I often have to force shut down and restart when the driver fails. Initially, I was using an AMD Radeon™ RX 7900 XT (RX-79TMBABF9). The crashes began to occur more often. After switching to a newer Nvidia RTX 2070, it seemed to function properly at first, allowing me to play for about 10 to 15 minutes before the driver would crash again.

I have since moved to an older AMD GPU and recently switched to an Nvidia RTX 2070. The crashes started around five days after installing a lower-end GPU. I attempted various solutions including disabling XMP settings, adjusting power limits, reinstalling drivers, and using DDU between switching GPUs.

My system details are as follows:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D
- AIO: Arctic Liquid Freezer III 360 (ACFRE00136A)
- Motherboard: ASUS Rog Strix B550-F Gaming WiFi II
- GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7900XT (RX-79TMBABF9) / Nvidia RTX 2070 (GV-N2070WF3-8GC)
- RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3200 (PC4-25600) C16 1.35B
- SSD: Samsung 860 EVO 500GB / Western Digital 1TB WDS100T2B0A
- PSU: CORSAIR RM750e 80+ Gold (750W)

I have tried disabling XMP, adjusting the ResizableBar, lowering GPU power limits, and other adjustments. Initially, the issues seemed resolved for a few days after installing the Nvidia model, but now the graphics drivers are crashing again. When the AMD card fails, the screen goes black while audio remains functional, followed by a reset and an error message indicating the driver crash. With the Nvidia card, the behavior is similar except the screen doesn’t go black and the game hangs or freezes instead. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Running your PCIe at 3.0 in BIOS might provide some improvement.

Attempted various adjustments without success. Also tried modifying the Adrenaline software, adjusting the power limit to -5% and setting clock speeds according to manufacturer specifications. Uncertain why adrenaline defaulted to 2800 while the manufacturer specifies a maximum of 2400. Tested an older driver version suggested by XFX, but the issue persists with crashes.

How current are your windows, and what condition are they in? Have you performed system health checks? Are they recent? Regarding the BIOS version?

Windows was reinstalled recently, I performed a system file checker and ran DISM scans as well. The BIOS received an update to the latest version this week. I experienced some limited progress last night, but had to follow every recommendation online step by step. I managed to play games for a short time without crashes, which has been difficult before. However, only when following the list below could I achieve that.

Disable XMP
Disable Resizable BAR
Disable AMD FSR
Disable VSync
Downclock GPU Max Clock to 2200mhz
Reduce GPU Power limit by -5%
Reduce in-game graphics settings to Medium - High

It seems progress is better than before, but it feels frustrating since I can only run games at Medium-High settings in 1080p with a 7900XT and my RAM can only handle up to 2133mhz.
