Hello everyone, I just purchased a used Afox RX 580 2048SP (8GB GDDR5), but it seems quite limited. Here’s what I’ve observed:

GPU-Z of my system shows:
Symptoms
GPU-Z/HWInfo Data:
Core voltage (VDDC) drops to 0.794V idle, max 1.081V under load, which should be around 1.15V.
Power consumption is capped at 35W-43W (expected ~150W).
Clocks are stuck at 300MHz base (1286MHz), but sometimes jump to 1000+ without explanation.
PCIe link: x8 1.1 (sometimes jumps to x8 3.0, then back).
Temperatures are unusually low (35°C under load for 15 minutes of Furmark at 1080p if it doesn’t crash), indicating the GPU isn’t operating fully.
For some reason, Furmark crashes and AMD Adrenalin gives a warning.
Troubleshooting completed
Reinstalled drivers using DDU (AMD Adrenalin 25.8.1).
Tested on different systems (My: Asus PRIME A320M-K, Ryzen 5 3400G; My brother’s: Asus A320M-H, Ryzen 5 2600, PSU: Gigabyte P550SS 80+ Silver; some Gigabyte 650W +80 Gold).
Cleaned PCIe slot/contacts, re-seated GPU.

Suspected causes
Mining BIOS: The GPU is a used Afox model (likely reflashed).
BIOS version: 015.050.002.001.000000 (Device ID: 1002 6FDF).
Hardware issue: Faulty VRMs or desoldered parts from mining abuse (??).
Questions
BIOS: Is this a mining BIOS? Any recommendations for a stable OEM version?
Voltage: Why is VDDC so low? Is this a BIOS limitation or hardware failure?
If you need more details, I’ll try to help further.
Any assistance in diagnosing this would be very much appreciated.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer! I recently bought a used Afox RX 580 2048SP (8GB GDDR5), but it seems quite limited.
I tried various computers—mine: Asus PRIME A320M-K, Ryzen 5 3400G, PSU: Gigabyte P550SS 80+ Silver; my brother's: Asus A320M-H, Ryzen 5 2600, PSU: some Gigabyte 650W +80 Gold.
Gigabyte's P series PSUs are often criticized in the industry. You may want to check other Gigabyte PSUs and their ages. From what I think, you might have units that aren't reliable.
Regarding your VBIOS question, I found these links:
https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/269196/269196
Afox RX 580 VBIOS
8 GB GDDR5, 1244 MHz GPU, 1750 MHz Memory
www.techpowerup.com
Both have the same ID. You might want to take the card apart and check it yourself, but honestly, you probably shouldn't have bought that GPU back in 2025.

I really don’t want to open it, but luckily I got it from a store with a warranty. So I’ll just ask for something better and newer. I already let them know it doesn’t work properly, so they accepted it. Guess I learned my lesson and won’t buy cheap, strange things anymore, haha. Thanks for your reply.

It seems there might be a bios problem. I should check the GPU details and see what it reports. Are there any error codes displayed in Device Manager? If the card has warranty coverage, it’s best to return it rather than attempting repairs. The RX580 2048ap is a decent budget option if it functions correctly, but it’s outdated and won’t support newer games.

I looked through the bios for any clues about what was happening, even updated to the latest version, but it didn’t really help much. There are no error codes shown in Device Manager either. So I’ll just return it and request a different model, preferably newer this time hehe.
