I’m working on Windows 7 and thinking about switching to Windows 10 soon. I wondered if my system would still receive a free upgrade key after its free upgrade period ends—though I doubt it will actually work. Just curious about what happens. Thanks.

The free upgrade remains functional, though it isn't widely promoted. I recently installed a Lenovo X1 and downloaded the Windows 10 ISO onto a flash drive. I connected the drive to the target system and proceeded with the setup instructions. It's wise to back up your data beforehand just in case.

You can choose to get a flash drive version, or you can download a .iso file and execute it.

You have the choice of the flash drive method. I usually save the .ISO file since I switch between using a DVD and Rufus for creating bootable drives. The Microsoft tool functions perfectly.

After finishing the USB setup, you should keep using the boot menu as usual—no need to switch it back to the hard drive unless instructed otherwise.

Agreed. That was a great observation.

Apologies for the inconvenience. When I opened the USB and chose to keep my files, it indicated that Windows doesn’t support this action. I’m using Windows 7 SP1 with the convenience update installed, so it should work now. What’s happening?

Hey there, Spark. It seems I missed the quote you made. The installation isn't letting me save my settings—I don’t know why. You might want to boot into Windows SP1 and run setup.exe from the flash drive. That worked yesterday with the Lenovo laptop I mentioned, helping transfer data during the upgrade. Make sure to back up your information beforehand.

I’ve already attempted all possible solutions since yesterday. I’ve tried booting from the flash drive in Windows, but it didn’t work. I’m always worried about confirming the installation steps before starting. I left it on for ten hours without any improvement. The only alternative is using a USB to install, but Windows doesn’t support that method. Right now I’m preparing to burn a .iso file onto a DVD to test. I’m not sure if there are other options you could suggest, but I’d appreciate any help.
