A service similar to NordVPN or TunnelBear would work well. Regarding the slow internet, a VPN won’t actually boost your connection since you still need to link to their servers first.

I've tried NordVPN for a while now and had no problems. It's definitely worth considering instead of PIA since they don't serve the USA. For more detailed comparisons, check out ThatOnePrivacySite. Regarding the second point, as Martijn mentioned, a VPN can't boost your existing internet speed—you'll need a better plan from your ISP.

For Netflix on Netflix alone, avoid data restrictions and speed limits. Many free VPNs impose usage caps that can lead to additional charges—especially with Netflix, where exceeding limits often results in a poor streaming experience. Hola offers unlimited data without such restrictions, though it collects user information freely. I wouldn’t use personal accounts with it. Instead, consider a reputable VPN like Nord or PIA for better privacy and performance.

You can choose any fast VPN service for Netflix as long as it offers Canadian connections. Most providers have global locations, so with sufficient speed you should be able to use any available option. For gaming or lower latency needs, consider services like Nord, Vypr, and IP Vanish. These are often better suited for streaming with smoother performance.

The only free VPN compatible with Netflix is Zenmate using the Romania server. For more reliable options, explore this research blog. Netflix strictly monitors VPNs, so choose wisely.

Proton VPN offers solid performance, managed by CERN—the organization that experiments with particle collisions for research—and it's available at no cost. It claims to not log user activity and does not impose data limits.
