Question about upgrading to DDR4 and compatibility with existing systems.
Hello! You're considering a refresh for your gaming rig with a Ryzen 2600X and an MSI Armor RTX 2070. You're thinking about swapping out your dual 1080p monitors for something more modern to shift focus toward the GPU. For the RAM upgrade, you currently have four 3000Mhz 8GB sticks, but you're planning a CPU upgrade soon and want faster memory. The documentation from Asus seems to vary by CPU model, especially for the 5-series, so it’s not clear if they offer specific guidance. Would you like some general advice on choosing RAM speeds or types for your situation?
Typical memory controllers usually ignore the exact speed of DDR4 you install, but opting for standard options like Crucial Ballistix or Corsair Vengeance increases your chances of XMP functioning correctly. In reality, as long as you have DDR4-3600, the specific model is less important. Generally speaking, RAM remains RAM.
I would rather put my money towards AM5 if you need a new cpu and ram too, 7600+32GB 6000MHz ram costs about the same as 5700X3D and 32GB 3600MHz ram. You could wait for 7600X3D too. Corsair likes to swap components on their ram, people had problems with them.
Yes, but the compatibility list only includes 7th generation A series chips...
I understand you're referring to the 5700X3D model—it's not a G-series and it's not from the second generation.
