Question about UEFI and legacy BIOS settings
Question about UEFI and legacy BIOS settings
From your profile, I own an MSI G45 with Fast Boot enabled. It works for Windows 8 fast boot but still launches into a UEFI shell when I activate it. I’m trying to figure out why the UEFI shell keeps appearing instead of the normal boot screen.
I attempted it, but whenever the system uses UEFI, my HDD and SSD aren't recognized. It seems these devices lack compatibility with UEFI.
Are you asking if the system can locate the operating system or if it fails to identify your storage devices during the UEFI configuration?
Unable to locate the drives during UEFI setup. Not sure what’s going on when I switch to UEFI.
You'd need to adjust and set it up in UEFI mode (USB setup: use this approach to prevent data loss—make sure to back up first: http://sdnalloh.com/converting-win7-from-mbr-to-gpt/) I applied the second technique to switch from Windows 7 to UEFI before moving to Windows 8, though this might not be compatible with Windows 8 as the instructions were made for Windows 7. If you're interested, back up your files before continuing. I accessed Linux via Hiren's Boot CD (http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd)
Your CD key will remain valid after reformatting your drive, as long as you keep the same key and format settings intact.
You'd need to complete the phone activation process again to reactivate it. The guide suggests checking the official forum page for instructions: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/246...phone.html. Since it's an automated system, you won't need to contact anyone unless there are issues (though your experience with code transfers seems smooth).
