Question about the MSI MAG 850GL clicking sound
The 7700x (undervolted, overclocked) was modified in BIOS. Power consumption isn’t clear—AMD’s adrenaline seems to interfere or the draw isn’t visible. The 7900 gre nitro+ works with OC and fast timings on a 2863 chipset, drawing 300–325 watts under load. The PSU should not exceed 650 watts at maximum. After powering on, the PSU starts clicking—likely the fan. Is it safe to swap it for a standard PC fan like an Artic P12? Can I replace it altogether? I was considering returning it via RMA, which would take 3–4 weeks. PSA: It’s been this way for about 2–3 weeks now. Any advice would be appreciated. Also planning to upgrade to a Micro ATX PC/D31 case and thinking about PSU changes, but I already have cablemod cable extensions.
This suggestion isn't advisable. It might not be feasible unless you're comfortable using a soldering iron; otherwise, it's likely a 5V fan and not a 12V one, which could harm the PSU.
You'd need a fan that matches the voltage and power requirements. Yes, some mods have been tried with this approach. I'm completely against it. Power supplies can store charge for a while if you carefully unplug the wall outlet, release any remaining power from the PC case by pressing the power button, then turn off the PSU switch and hold the PC button down again.
They have already completed many similar modifications, but remain cautious about capacitors since they can retain charge even after learning this the hard way.
Also, wouldn't it be better to let it discharge fully by turning off the PSU and unplugging it for a few hours?
It should work but there are many smaller boards, so I would follow the method you mentioned and wait about three hours first.

Also discovered a review indicating an internal layout similar to a 12 v fan with a 2 pin connector.
the 5 watts on the psu fan's back might be sufficient, but the artic fans being rated for nearly 4 could pose an issue depending on the setup.
