I recently purchased a H310m 1151 motherboard for my i5 9400f, but I realize I need to upgrade the BIOS. Will the box indicate that my i5 9th Gen works without an update?

I really can't provide an answer since I'm unsure about the brand you're referring to. For the motherboard, I only use Asus products. I've been using them for a long time and have been an Asus customer since the beginning.

Check around the bios chip. You might see a stick with "F1" or a number after F. Your 9400F is backed since "F12," so any higher number means it's fine. https://www.gigabyte.com/us/Motherboard/...upport-cpu It seems to be a Gigabyte product.

I chose Asus for the motherboard. I'm receiving an Asus ROG Strix B550-F Gaming, AMD Ryzen 7 3800X, and Corsair Vengeance LPX 16Gb (2x8) DDR4 4000 (PC4-32000) C19. Next month I'll upgrade to double the RAM to reach 32 gigabytes. The board can handle up to 128 gigabytes, but I'm unsure if it's worth spending that much for something I wouldn't use.
