For a while, I've been using P95 to test my 24/7 OC (not used for video encoding or anything, just gaming and "regular" usage) but I just found this: https://www.reddit.com/r/overclocking/wi...on-g.29.3F On this page, it is suggested to use x264 Stress Test if you are okay with a ~99% stability OC. I am for sure, as I'll take every bit of performance I can get (FS2020 hammers the CPU especially in single thread). Is this an okay measure of stability. Like will only testing with this result in constant game crashes, or is it perfectly fine for non essential use (im not rendering for 24 hours or anything)? I might be able to push further than 4.2 GHz if so.

Using my old 4770k CPU, I achieved 4.2 or 4.3 with prime95 testing for an hour without issues. But for real stability, it was around 4.0. After a few weeks of crashes, the numbers fluctuated to 4.3, then dropped to 4.2, followed by 4.1 and settling at 4.0.

It would be a real hassle if something failed mid-flight during a long FS2020 trip. If this really checks stability, I might see a solid boost in performance scores.

At version 4.1 it ran smoothly for about a week with consistent daily play before I experienced a crash.

I'll check stability using this tool first and observe the results. Then I'll run it for a longer period to assess normal performance.

Stability can't be guaranteed by a single test. I suggest running several stress tests to confirm an OC. Only your specific scenario will demonstrate reliability in that environment. For instance, my aggressive GPU overclock works consistently across most tasks except RDR2. CPU OCs may behave similarly. Various instructions and applications create different demands on the system. Occasionally, an OC might appear stable until a significant load shift occurs. Personally, I rely on Prime95, cinebench, Blender, and other programs I use regularly for stability checks. There are numerous stress tests available, and the recommended approach is to employ all of them. *Typically* if Prime95 remains stable for more than an hour, it should perform reliably in about 99% of cases. Buildzoid (often called Hardcore Overclocking) features a video discussing CPU stability and stress testing methods.
