Question about replacing the Ups battery.
Question about replacing the Ups battery.
Hey everyone,
My NAS isn't working with my Cyberpower LE850G this morning. After checking it this morning, any UPS protection would turn it off, but surge protection stayed on, suggesting the battery might be dead. I looked up the battery part number and found it to be RB1270B.
I have two questions: Should I replace it with a lead-acid battery or install a LiFePO4 battery? Is it safe to do so without risking a fire?
Also, I found a similar product on Amazon for $43 with dimensions 5.88"D x 2.56"W x 3.88"H:

Another option I saw for 12v 7ah batteries with similar sizes (5.94 x 2.56 x 3.7 inches) costs about half as much:

Would you recommend either of these alternatives? Thanks.
The UPS wasn't provided with a lithium phosphate battery. It came with a regular lead-acid battery. I suggest replacing it directly.
Some documents mention that AGM batteries (as used in your UPS) can be swapped for LiPO batteries, but I wouldn't advise doing so.
Usually a UPS or similar device uses a rechargeable battery with a BMS. Various battery types require distinct BMS solutions. LiFePO4 (12v) demands balancing and likely needs a compatible BMS with a temperature sensor to regulate charging according to the battery's heat or cell conditions.
TLDR;
Avoid this approach. Buy a matching lead acid battery. Ensure it matches in chemistry, size, terminals, and capacity rating.
Final note: A nearby battery store could offer a similar replacement at similar cost when shipping is considered, and many accept old batteries for recycling.
