I'm sorry, but I need more details about the LPX 3600MHz RAM I had. After returning it to Amazon, I received my refund because it didn't meet the advertised performance. I went back to my 16GB G.Skill kit at 3200MHz and it still works well. That's why I'm considering the RGB kits I'm evaluating. I think those speeds should be compatible with my motherboard. If they perform well and look suitable, I'd like to buy one. Also, I'm unsure if it's worth sticking with the 8-pin kit for now, especially since I plan to upgrade to a mainstream build in a couple of years. I don't want to commit to an HEDT platform from Intel or AMD.
Review the QVL entry for your specific motherboard. If you opt for a DDR4 kit, it should generally fit, though the auto-timings may not be ideal. I didn't focus on the QVL listing; it was more about the first-gen Ryzen. Intel memory support has consistently been solid. Exceeding 2666MHz is seen as memory overclocking, so results might vary. Even if a setup doesn't run at that speed with XMP, manual overclocking could work, possibly requiring higher voltage. I've increased my 2x16GB Corsair Vengeance RAM from its default 3200MHz to 3466MHz and adjusted the timings.
RAM not listed in the motherboard’s QVL often suffers from poor secondary and tertiary timings, which are advanced settings you shouldn’t alter unless you understand them. Right. Cuz I have checked the QVL list on AsRock's website looking it up under my exact mobo and found that neither of the linked kits are on there. Even a few kits of non rgb LPX weren't on there either, if I remember correctly. But I did find some that were specifically mentioned. Oh, so the rgb versions are worse performing? Or is that cuz they're just not listed on the QVL list? Yeah, I've since refunded that 3600MHz kit (forgot to mention that) and gone back to my 16GB 3200MHz G.Skill kit I had prior. So how would you go about messing with timings and what not? Cuz I know RAM sticks have their timings listed. Should you just manually put in those timings and all that, rather than using the xmp profile thing in the BIOS?
