It would be too weak. Yet I can only manage so much spending. My overall impression isn’t great either. It hinges on how much I’m willing to invest in my CC. My 2012 setup has 32GB DDR3 at 1833 with a CAS of 16. The issue here is the significant price gap. I can locate 32GB kits with C18 or C19 at reasonable rates, but C16 is costly for that capacity. When assembling my son’s rig, I only used 16GB of 3200 (probably C18 rather than C16). Don’t misunderstand, I’d really like a Ryzen 7 3700X or 3700XT, but I just can’t afford that high. The idea of adding a B450 MB doesn’t sway me much, since I prefer a long-lasting system—generally 6 to 10 years, ideally.
I’m really glad you found the assistance useful—it really boosted my motivation! Now I’m thinking about whether to remove the optical drive from my new build. If I do, I’ll need to handle around 70 DVDs and Blu-rays for copying and conversion first! That’s why upgrading makes so much sense. It’s basically just a simple decision to make. And with no stock available, it feels like the only option.
It seems Linus shared another update about his rig upgrade in his video from last night. The lower CAS latency is actually preferable for memory performance. I’m thinking I’ll stick with the C16 at 3200 or look for a C14 if possible. Of course, I probably won’t be able to afford it.
And given the budget limit of under 4000 and the lack of high-end samples from manufacturers, I'm looking for ways to evaluate deals at purchase. I need to understand what discounts are available so I can avoid regretting an early investment. My finances are tight, but I want to make a smart choice—especially since this could be my 12th build in about 25 years of hardware passion.
