The third wire ground serves as a safety measure and does not affect the performance of the power supply.

It seems to only affect certain filtering, doesn't it? Because filters send unwanted frequencies to ground.

Ripple filtering doesn't eliminate unwanted frequencies effectively. It aims to preserve a DC signal as much as feasible after converting an AC one. In any scenario, the main role of a ground pin is to offer the lowest-resistance route on the chassis, reducing the chance of electricity passing through you if a short occurs. Additionally, in many mains circuits, the neutral wire is still connected to ground. Therefore, the absence of a ground pin primarily raises safety concerns rather than reliability issues.
