Hello. Trying to salvage the old PC using Phenom II X4 955, Gigabyte GA-MA790 GP-UD4H, 8GB RAM. Fails to install or boot the 64-bit Windows 7 disc. Any suggestions?

At this stage you might prefer to focus on Linux for that build, rather than dealing with an unsupported operating system. You could also attempt to install Windows 8.1 while using drivers compatible with Windows 7, as outlined in the guide. Under Windows 10, it would be challenging to adapt as you progress further with the OS.

Thanks for your response. You're planning to use the PC only for simple tasks in the woodworking shop, like showing diagrams, designs, and printing basic instructions. Just need it to start and install Windows 7. Any assistance would be welcome.

Also, completely indifferent to MS support for the OS. Won't even get online.

You are asking about the point where something fails, but the phrasing is unclear. Could you clarify what you mean by "that" and "which point"? This will help in providing an accurate response.
