Question about PCIe cables for an RX 9070 XT Red Devil
Hello, I recently acquired a 9070 XT Red Devil for nearly the MSRP in my country, and I currently have a Be Quiet, Pure power 12M 1000W. Looking at the card, it needs 3x8 PCIe cables, but my PSU only provided 2 cables that split into 2 more connectors, making a total of 4, 8-pin connectors (6+2). Can I use one cable with both connectors and another with the remaining ones? Should I purchase a complete set? If yes, where should I connect it? My PSU has 2 PCIe slots and one PCIe 5.0 slot. Thanks in advance.
one cable is split into two 8pin versions for the GPU and one has an 8pin for the GPU. Use the 12V1 from the PSU on the cable connected to two 8pin PCIe connectors, and the third 8pin to the 12V2. The 12V1 provides more power than the 12V2, which is used for all other 12V components such as CPU and motherboard. The PSU has two PCIe ports, one on the left and one on the right, both leading to the PCIe 5.1 slot.
Thanks for the clarification! It seems it might have been better to use a single cable per slot now, or maybe it's still an issue. Since the PSU purchase is recent, I can return it if needed and check further.
depends always on the PSU. Multi-rail PSUs need one cable per slot to deliver the full wattage to the GPU, not just half or less. Your PSU offers two rails with 46A and 42A. Using just one slot would leave around 504W unavailable for the GPU, which might cause issues. With three rails, you'd distribute power through three separate PCIe cables to ensure the GPU gets all the power it needs.
Yes, you can utilize two cables with three connectors, it's completely fine.
I understand, I thought it would be okay because I believe a PSU from a trusted manufacturer wouldn't include faulty cables. The split happens at the end, with the cables entering the first connector and exiting for another one.
