Question about overclocking i7-8700K
Hello. I'm trying to overclock my CPU but I'm not very familiar with the process. I have an ASUS TUF H370-PRO GAMING motherboard and my main question is how to reach the menu where the overclocking settings are managed. Do I need to install a program like ASUS GPU TweakII for CPU, or should I use something different?
ASUS TUF H370-PRO GAMING model does not allow overclocking. A Z370 or Z390 board must be used.
SkyNetRising is spot on... The H370 isn't suitable for overclocking. The 8700K offers significant overclocking possibilities, but unlocking it requires a Z370 or Z390 motherboard. If you decide to upgrade, go with the Z390 as it's the latest model. I own a Z370 and have successfully boosted mine to around 4.9GHz across all cores at a low voltage setting—5GHz is definitely possible.
The H370 chipset supports overclocking. It isn't the top choice compared to the z370, z390 or other Intel options for this purpose, but it has been possible before. Check out this overclocking example: https://hwbot.org/submission/4034597_acm..._99.76_mhz. They used a motherboard that wasn't designed for good overclocking, yet achieved a stable 4,090.98MHz.
