Instruct him to check the Reliability History/Monitor and Event Viewer.
He should identify error codes, warnings, and informational events that appear when using the computer at home but not when it’s brought into your home.
He must also draw a simple diagram illustrating the computer and all connected peripherals, along with any power connections such as outlets, UPS, power strips, surge protectors, extension cords, video and audio cables.
Compare this diagram to the setup at your house.
Search for any circular loops: Device A → Device B → Device C → Device D → back to Device A.

That looks like electrical power problem at his place, that should be investigated first. Either that or hire ghost busters
