Question about Minecraft cache storage
Question about Minecraft cache storage
I’m considering upgrading to the Ryzen 5 5600X3D for my Minecraft server. It’s interesting to know if the extra L3 cache would really help, since speed alone isn’t the main issue. Are there other Ryzen CPUs in the same price range that might perform better overall? Thanks for your time, TYIA and I!
the minecraft java server behaves in an unusual way. i think the large cache size of x3d isn't really useful here, since the "just the x, non-3d" version also has a lot of cache due to many cores, and the server doesn't overload them with tasks. that said, testing performance details like this is quite challenging. maybe you notice more terrain generation being handled but less improvement in mob AI. overall, if you're running a home server without heavy resource demands, the difference between 5600X and 5800X will be minimal because those extra cores aren't needed.
Thank you for your message. I’ve checked further and found that a CPU with better single-core performance could be beneficial. I’ll explore that option. Regarding home-hosted Minecraft servers, do you have any details or recommendations you’d like to share?
