Question about laptop GPU MHz and percentage drops
I own a Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 15ach6 with 1650 4gb RAM and a Ryzen 7 5800h processor, plus 16gb of RAM. Because of the laptop, I can only utilize around 13GB, with the rest allocated for Windows. About a year ago, I experienced significant stutters despite maintaining a steady FPS. Even during YouTube playback or music listening, there were noticeable frame drops. Here’s the link to a video showing the issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5Yovm3OgWA.
After undervolting the GPU, the problems improved, but something new occurred in CS2—other games ran smoothly while this one struggled. The game maintains around 120 FPS initially, but after a few rounds, the GPU’s MHz drops to 1380 from 1770, and the performance falls to about 30%. I’ve restarted the GPU, which now operates between 60-70 degrees, so I’m unsure what’s causing the issue. The CPU temperature is roughly 77-80°C.
I’ve tried all possible fixes: undervolting again, disabling processor boost, and adjusting power plans using Ultimate Performance with max CPU usage set to 99%. Battery life drops when playing CS2, but remains stable around 95% otherwise. I’m unsure if the battery issue is the main factor or something else.
If anyone has suggestions or solutions, I’d really appreciate it. This situation has been frustrating, and I’ve even had to hit my head against the wall. Thank you.
Checking CPU and SSD performance, what's the current usage? How much space is occupied on the SSD?
Never really looked into cpu usage because I didn’t think it was the issue. I’m not sure how to check CPU usage with MSI Afterburner since it just shows CPU1 and CPU2, which confused me. SSD usage is unclear to me too, and I have a 500GB SSD split across three drives—my C drive has about 20GB free and my Game Drive has around 100GB. I don’t think space is the problem.
