Question about FPS drop when playing Doom?
Question about FPS drop when playing Doom?
My PC specifications are as follows: i7 10700k, RTX 3080, 32gb RAM, RM750 power supply (thought it might be okay), and I recently experienced a significant drop in FPS while playing Doom 2016. This happened in an area with heavy monster activity, which surprised me given my 32gb RAM and decent CPU and GPU. I plan to check the hwinfo from the previous day to see if it’s available and share more details. I also tried dual booting Windows 7 earlier, but it failed because the Z490 motherboard doesn’t support it. The only changes were RAM XMP profiles and time adjustments, nothing else. Is this related to the game?
I don't remember the exact FPS drop, but I recall the game running smoothly until a scene with lots of monsters slowed it down significantly, almost to a crawl. I'm using the High Graphic Settings and Windows 10, which is better than Windows 11 for me.
I just achieved a passmark in the green category, so the test went smoothly. I played Doom again and it felt seamless; however, it didn't react like before. I checked the hwinfo log, but there was no history without running it.
So I resumed playing and noticed lag, so I paused quickly and ran hwinfo again. The lag disappeared, and I reviewed the log to verify clock speed and memory—everything was normal. Core clocks reached between 4696Mhz and 4700Mhz, but effective cores stayed around 100 or lower.
Some peaks hit up to 1000, while others dropped to about 100. Max values reached 1000, but core effective clocks never exceeded 100 even at 18.
Below is the data during low usage. The highest values were 1000.

What power profile are you employing in Windows? Are there any overclocking tools, such as Afterburner, currently active for your 3080?
Consider using high performance settings and keep an eye on your GPU temperatures, as prolonged mining might have overheated the cooling pads. This could lead to overheating and reduced efficiency.
I will adjust the cooling pads for the GPU while I was mining.
The following are the GPU temperatures during the glitch:

Just played doom again and ran hwinfo while playing the game. The lowest core effective clock recorded was 4.3Mhz, 4.4Mhz, 4Mhz, etc.
Below is the table from hwinfo. The highest value shown is the maximum it reached, and the lowest is the minimum.

The hwinfo file after playing doom is available, but it seems the section you're examining might not be the correct one.
