Hello and thank you for reading my post.
My motherboard has an older connection that limits internet speed to 100mbps, while my ISP provides 400mbps. If I connect a USB 3.0 external dongle, will it allow me to reach the full 400mbps?
This is the model I'm considering.

My motherboard is outdated with a 100mbps internet connection.
What is the make and model of your motherboard?
My ISP provides 400mbps.
Did you use an aftermarket router or was it supplied by your ISP? If it's an off-the-shelf device, please share its make and model.

Make sure you really have USB 3 ports available. Devices began becoming standard with gigabit Ethernet long before USB 3 was introduced. If your machine only supports 100mbps, it would be unusual to find such a fast USB connection on a port that only offers 100mbps. A gigabit Ethernet chip is actually more affordable than a USB3 chip—especially when you consider the price for thousands of units.

Having USB3 should provide around 400mbps. Keep in mind it requires more CPU power due to multiple driver levels. On modern systems, this load is usually barely noticeable, but older processors might detect it.
