Question About DISM and bootrec commands
Question About DISM and bootrec commands
Hello all,
I have multiple questions to address:
I would like to verify any possible concerns regarding the bootloader and boot sectors (bootrec and chkdsk /f or /r needed) for checking FileSystems issues. I ran sfc /scannow, DISM, and SMART through software.
Regarding Registry issues, I haven't yet run a Windows memory diagnostic.
1—I executed the DISM command. I don’t recall the specific problem, but I’m experiencing slow startup when powering on my laptop. This is the observed result:
Is it necessary to resolve this? Should I use: Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth?
2—Could running the following command unintentionally harm the operating system or system stability?
Code:
bootrec /scanos
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /rebuildbcd
slow boot usually isn't a bcd issue, it boots up or if something is wrong, it won't boot
the dism command you entered is just wrong, search for error 87
run cmd as admin
run memtest
run the tool of hdd/ssd manufacturer to check it
is it a ssd or hdd?
which laptop model are you using?
did you alter any windows settings regarding shutdown or restart options
which apps are loading automatically while Windows boots up
is the 1st boot in bios the windows boot manager or something else
Hello, thank you for your reply. It's an HDD and I included the SMART in one of my posts; it's working fine despite its age. N55S ASUS, core i7-2630QM. Yes, fast boot from control panel (power option) is unchecked, but sometimes it takes a long time to shut down—last night it took 3 hours to return to normal after Windows Getting Ready. "Don't turn off your computer" after several attempts to get the latest update caused issues; restarts now take longer than usual. Should I check msconfig.exe? In Windows 10, most settings were disabled by default. The first boot was Windows 10, and it's set to that version by default.
