Your Acer Aspire has two DDR3 slots: one with a BTM module and another with standard memory. You can swap them if you want, but make sure the BTM slot matches the same type of RAM (4GB 1RX8-PC3L) and that the physical orientation is correct. Just flip it over and try inserting it into the other slot. If everything fits properly, it should work fine.

BTM likely stands for bottom ... STD for standard ... meaning a typical configuration with standard layout and top placement. Inserting the RAM stick is the only option due to a notch that prevents incorrect orientation. Regarding purchases, your SK HYNIX DDR3 4GB 1RX8-PC3L-12800S model fits the specs—DDR3L, 4GB, 1Rx8. It’s recommended to keep it 1Rx8 unless you’re certain about compatibility. If you prefer a second stick, you might end up with two 4GB units. For cost efficiency, buying two 8GB sticks could be better than one 4GB one, especially if you can sell or donate the smaller unit. You’d pay roughly $35 for two 8GB DDR3L sticks here: https://www.amazon.com/Silicon-Power-160...B07L8C37DH. A single 4GB stick costs about $10.

They are both DDR3 SODIMM slots, with one flipped. It’s likely they were adjusted for trace routing.

Thank you for your question. The Acer site suggests using memory that matches 8GB or 2x4GB configurations, so your two 8GB drives should work fine without causing issues.

I didn't check your model, so I thought 16 GB would work. Unfortunately, it looks like the limit is 8 GB when using two 4 GB drives. The restriction comes from the processor you have—the Pentium J2900—which only supports up to 8 GB of DDR3L memory, as detailed here: https://intel.com/content/www/us/en/prod...tions.html. Apologies for the confusion.
