The DD-WRT community seems inactive, so I'm reaching out here. Can a ddwrt router act as a Wi-Fi access point with roaming between the base router on 2.4GHz and an independent network on 5GHz? How would I set this up? Thanks.

It's been quite some time since I last used ddwrt. From what I remember, it handled each band separately, which means you should be able to get what you need. If you haven't done so yet, try updating your router with dd wrt and explore its features.

Have you checked out Tomato or OpenWRT? They’re getting more support now. Still, I think it would fit, though I haven’t used DD-WRT recently and I’m not sure about the wireless uplink settings.

Sure thing! It seems like you're adjusting your setup choices. Moving away from ddwrt makes sense since it can be tricky to configure, while freshtomato offers more features.
