Question about CRC error during backup with Macrium Reflect, linked to unformatted drive?
Hello everyone,
I'm currently running Windows 11 25H2 and attempting a system image backup of the C: drive with Macrium Reflect, saving it to the D: drive. Prior to upgrading, I faced no problems with this process. After the upgrade, Macrium Reflect began displaying a CRC error during backups. Initially, I thought it might be due to a bad sector on either the C: or D: drive. However, after running chkdsk on both drives, no issues were detected. I also checked with CrystalDiskInfo, which confirmed both drives were healthy with more than 90% health. To narrow down the cause, I tried backing up individual partitions one at a time. It turned out the partition named "2 - Unformatted Drive" was responsible for the error. Removing that partition resolved the problem, allowing the backup to finish without issues. After restoring from the backup image, the system worked perfectly.
I’m wondering if others have encountered similar problems with unformatted or hidden partitions causing CRC errors in Macrium Reflect on Windows 11 25H2? Do you know the underlying reason or the best way to fix it without excluding the partition?
Thanks in advance for your assistance!
16MB partition serves as a protective MBR partition.
Designed for GPT unaware tools (like fdisk in older DOS/Windows versions), it prevents the drive from being marked as empty.
With Windows 11, this protective MBR partition is no longer required.
